Circle Skirt Calculator

How are circle skirts made?

Circle skirts are flowing skirts that envelop the shape of a circle when spread out on a flat surface. It makes for an extremely popular sewing piece due to the fact that only two ends need to be connected together after cutting the pattern from the fabric and adding the hem and waistband.

Circle skirt math:

To convert measurements into a viable pattern, the sewer requires 2 values:

  1. The circumference of the waist, which is measured at the waistband level.
  2. The skirt's length, which is measured from the waistband.

Circle skirts are commonly divided into 4 types, with the formulas (w = waist) being:

  • Full = (w - 2) / (2π)
  • 3/4 = [ 1.33 * (w - 2) / (2π) ]
  • Half = [ 2 * (w - 2) / (2π) ]
  • Quarter = [ 4 * (w - 2) / (2π) ]
