How to convert Kilowatts to Kilojoules

How to convert energy in Kilowatts (kW) in electric power to Kilojoules (kJ).

It is possible to calculate kilowatts from seconds and kilojoules, but you cannot convert kilowatts to kilojoules since kilowatt and kilojoule units represent different quantities.

Kilowatts to Kilojoules formula

The power P in kilowatts (kW) is equal to the energy E in kilojoules (kJ) multiplied by the time period t in seconds (s):

P(kW) = E(kJ) * t(S)

So

Kilowatts = Kilojoules * Seconds

or

kW = kJ * s

Example

Find the power consumption of an electrical circuit that has an energy consumption of 9 kilojoules given a time duration of 3 seconds.

P(kW) = 9 kJ * 3s = 27 kW
