How to convert Kilowatts to Watt-hours

How to convert electric power in kilowatts (kW) to energy in watt-hours (Wh).

It is possible to calculate watt-hours from kilowatts and hours, but you can't convert kilowatts to watt-hour units since kilowatt and watt-hour units represent different quantities.

Kilowatts to Watt-hours calculation formula

The energy E in watt-hours (Wh) is equal to 1000 times the power P in kilowatts (kW) times the time period t in hours (h):

E(Wh) = 1000 * P(kW) * t(h)

So

Watt-hours = 1000 * Kilowatts * Hours

or

Wh = 1000 * kW * h

Example

Find the energy consumption in watt-hours when the power consumption is 5 kilowatts for a time duration of 3 hours.

E = 1000 * 5kW * 3h = 15000 Wh
