How to convert Watt-hours to Watts

How to convert energy in watt-hours (Wh) to electric power in watts (W).

It is possible to calculate watts from hours and watt-hours, but you cannot convert watt-hours to watts since watt-hours and watts represent different quantities.

Watt-hours to Watts calculation formula

The power P in watts (W) is equal to the energy E in watt-hours (Wh) divided by the time period t in hours (h):

P(W) = E(Wh) / t(h)

So

Watts = Watt-hours / Hours

or

W = Wh / h

Example

Find the power consumption in watts given an energy consumption of 15-hours and a time duration of 3 hours.

P = 15 Wh / 3 h = 5W
