How to convert Watts to Watt-hours

How to convert electic power in Watts (W) to energy in Watt-hours (Wh).

It is possible to calculate watt-hours from watts and hours, but you cannot convert watts to watt-hours since watts and watt-hour units represent different quantities.

Watts to Watt-hours calculation formula

The energy E in watt-hours (Wh) is equal to the power P in watts (W) times the time period t in hours (h):

E(Wh) = P(W) * t(h)

So

Watt-hours = Watts * Hours

or

Wh = W * h

Example

Find the energy consumption in watt hours given a power consumption of 5 watts and a time duration of 3 hours:

E = 5W * 3h = 15 Wh
